Electrical
Lighting installation in Brisbane
Lighting is the electrical work you look at every day, so the setting out matters as much as the wiring. Downlights that are not square to the room, a pendant hung off centre over a bench, or a beam angle that lights the floor instead of the benchtop are all avoidable with a bit of planning before anything is cut.

What it covers
What's included.
Layout and set out
Positions marked and checked against the room, the joinery and the way the space is actually used before any holes are cut.
LED downlights
Supply and install, including replacing older halogen fittings and their transformers.
Pendants and feature lighting
Hung at a sensible height and centred on the bench, table or space they are lighting.
Strip and cabinet lighting
Continuous runs under overhead cabinetry that wash a benchtop evenly rather than spotting it.
Outdoor and security lighting
Entry, path, patio and sensor lighting rated for outdoor conditions.
Switching and dimming
Switch positions that make sense, two-way switching where it is useful, and dimmers matched to the fittings.
Why people call
Common reasons for this job.
- Halogen downlights are being replaced with LED
- A room is dim, patchy or lit from the wrong direction
- A kitchen or bathroom renovation needs new lighting set out
- Benchtops are shadowed by overhead cabinets
- The outside of the house is dark at the entry or along a path
- Dimmers buzz, flicker or will not dim smoothly
How Hoff works
The approach.
Before anything is cut, Hoff walks the room with you. Where does the light actually need to fall, where does the furniture sit, and where will the cabinetry end up. Fittings get positioned around that rather than in a default grid.
Cable runs are planned to minimise patching. In a ceiling with access that is straightforward. Where access is tight, you will be told up front what patching is likely rather than discovering it afterwards.
Dimming is matched to the fitting. A dimmer that is not compatible with the driver in an LED lamp is the usual cause of flicker and buzz, and getting that pairing right at quote stage avoids the problem entirely.
Lighting installation is electrical work requiring a licensed electrical contractor. Circuits worked on are tested on completion and the Certificate of Testing and Compliance is issued.

Lighting questions.
Yes. It is one of the more common jobs. Old halogen fittings and their transformers come out, and the replacement LEDs are matched for beam angle and colour temperature to suit the room.
Fewer than most people expect, if they are positioned well. It depends on ceiling height, the colour of the room and what the space is used for. Hoff will set out a layout with you rather than applying a formula.
Usually the dimmer and the LED driver are not compatible. Matching the dimmer to the fitting at the quoting stage prevents it.
Yes. Entry, path, patio and sensor lighting, using fittings rated for outdoor conditions.
Sometimes, depending on ceiling access. You will be told what patching is likely before the work starts, not after.
